Hi! My name is Nicky. I’m one of the “Diamond Dogs” here at NHS. Yes, that means that I’m a GEM of a dog. I just need some “polish” & the right “setting” to sparkle as my very best self! I’m a young, smart, energetic and affectionate young dog! I love to play with toys, go for walks, run in the yards and play training games with my human friends! I had little training before coming to the shelter. Now that I’m here, I’m learning how to have more self control! I now know how to sit and lay down. I LOVE training because I’m a dog who enjoys mental stimulation. My adoption comes with a FREE six-week training class that we can both enjoy! When I get excited, I still tend to jump up and playfully mouth at you like I’m still a puppy. Because of this, I need a home with no children under 12. I’m also a superdog and can easily jump a 4ft fence, I will need a home with a six foot fence. I love being the light of your life and would not like any other animals taking my spotlight! Hi! My name is Copper! My friends at the shelter would describe me as calm, sweet, and smart! I know SIT, SHAKE, DOWN, & WAIT! My previous owners state that I’m potty trained and that I did well living with both cats and dogs. Even though I love playing with the other dogs here at the shelter, I’d still like to meet any resident dogs to make sure we’re a good fit for eachother. I’m a bit on the shy side when it comes to strangers and children. I’m looking for a home where people will go slow and allow me to warm up at my own pace. I would do best in a home with teenagers or adults only, as children are too overwhelming for me. Happy Hump Day from Grizz! Grizz is a big, rowdy dog! He is full of energy and loves to run around the yards holding his toys! Grizz knows sit, shake, lay down, and he’s working on roll over! He’s VERY smart and treat-motivated, so training is fun for everyone! He even comes with a FREE six-week training class here at NHS after his adoption! Because he gets excited so easily and he’s a big boy, he can easily knock children over. He needs a home with no children under 12. He’s pretty dog selective and is overwhelming for most dogs. I can be easygoing and can get along with people and other dogs, so if you have a home with moderate traffic, I might be right for you. TGIF from Birdie! I’m a typical Chow which means I love to be with my people and can be very affectionate with those I know but can be very leery or aloof of new people, especially if not socialized properly. I can be sensitive when it comes to being handled by a veterinarian and/or groomer. I’ll need time to warm up to vet and grooming staff, but we can figure out together what makes me uncomfortable, what helps make me more comfortable and ways to counter condition those uncomfortable situations. I respond well to positive reinforcement, so if every new person I met gave me treats, I could be persuaded to warm up to strangers. I need a family that is experienced with Chows as it takes a special family that truly understands my personality traits to be a loving and successful canine companion! I must go to a home with closer to their teens as younger children are just too overwhelming for me. I need to meet all family members before going to my new forever home as I want to make sure I can fit right into the family. I’m a dog that loves my people and prefers not to share them with any other furry friends in the home. I may just “dog watch” and keep on going for our stroll. My name is Jackz. I haven’t met a person that I don’t like! It’s all about getting pet and having fun with the family for me! I’m the kind of the companion that may do well with children and with a family that has friends over because I want to be their friend too! I’m easygoing, can go with the flow and am ready to join in all the family activities. I can be a bit too overzealous with getting food and treats and can get jumpy and mouthy when excited or anxious. For these reasons I should go to a home with children closer to their teens as my behaviors could be a bit alarming for younger children. I don’t mean anything about it, I just really like food and coming from a situation where I wasn’t fed often enough, I feel the need to search out food and become a bit too excited about it. I would love to meet the whole family, including resident dogs, before going to my new forever home. I tend to get attached to people quickly and have a hard time saying goodbye, even if it’s for just for a few hours. I will need a family that will help me learn how to be by myself.
