TGIF from Birdie! I’m a typical Chow which means I love to be with my people and can be very affectionate with those I know but can be very leery or aloof of new people, especially if not socialized properly. I can be sensitive when it comes to being handled by a veterinarian and/or groomer. I’ll need time to warm up to vet and grooming staff, but we can figure out together what makes me uncomfortable, what helps make me more comfortable and ways to counter condition those uncomfortable situations. I respond well to positive reinforcement, so if every new person I met gave me treats, I could be persuaded to warm up to strangers. I need a family that is experienced with Chows as it takes a special family that truly understands my personality traits to be a loving and successful canine companion! I must go to a home with closer to their teens as younger children are just too overwhelming for me. I need to meet all family members before going to my new forever home as I want to make sure I can fit right into the family. I’m a dog that loves my people and prefers not to share them with any other furry friends in the home. I may just “dog watch” and keep on going for our stroll. I would just prefer to be the furry queen of my new forever home and must be the only dog.
